Membership in the Vermont MIDI Project is required for entrance to the password protected online mentoring website where the conversations about student compositions take place. Membership carries responsibilities for participation as well as benefits. Adherence to protocols for reflection and critique and the posting of work are key to the online community. Meetings, workshops and courses bring participating teachers together to reflect on project needs and plan for the future. Workshops and courses also help inform teachers about current developments in technology.

A small fee for participation was instituted beginning with the 2001-2002 school year when the Vermont MIDI Project became a non-profit organization. In addition to the fee, each teacher and school principal must sign an agreement that outlines participant responsibilities including:

  • respectful conversation and posting of work to the password protected threaded discussion area
  • attending two professional development workshops per year with various offerings online and in-person
  • completion of requested evaluation surveys
Students who are homeschooled or attend a school that does not participate in Vermont MIDI Project may sign up as an Independent Study student fr online mentoring and project benefits such as live performance opportunities. Contact Project Coordinator Sandi MacLeod for more information and the participation agreement.

The Vermont MIDI Project serves students and schools outside the state as well as in-state. Current participating schools and students live in New York, Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.  Please contact Sandi MacLeod, project coordinator for further information about getting your school involved whether you're a Vermonter or located somewhere else in the world.
